Skating School

2007-2008 ICE SKATING SCHOOL

The Hommocks Park Ice Rink offers skating lessons for ages 4 through adults. Skaters wishing to be registered with the ISI must pay an annual membership fee of $10.00. Ribbons or badges will be given to skaters qualified to advance to the next level. Testing will be done on the last class of each session. PLEASE NOTE: Some levels are more difficult and may take a skater more than 5 weeks to complete.

What is the ISI?

The Ice Skating Institute is the organization, which supports the development and operation of ice rinks and provides recreational ice skating programs in the United States.

Learn to Skate

Group lessons for ages 4 though adult (beginner to advanced) I.S.I (Ice Skating Institute) Badge Program will continue this season. Testing will be done in the fifth week for those students ready to advance and are members of ISI.

GROUP LESSONS: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays or Sundays. Six 5-week sessions offered. Classes are one half-hour (30 minutes) in length.

Skating Levels & Elements

TOTS I & ADVANCED TOT/Beginner (ages 4 to 6)
Fall down, stand up, march across ice without help. Forward swizzle, stop, 2 foot glide, back marching, starting to glide.
Tuesdays 3:45 pm

Sundays 9:45 or 10:15 am    

TOTS II - Ages 4 to 6, who have taken lessons
1 foot gliding, backward swizzles, stop, forward pumping.
Tuesdays or Thursdays 3:45 pm    
Fridays 1:00 or 3:45 pm    
Sundays 9:45 or 10:15 pm    

PRE-ALPHA - Beginner (ages 7 years & older)
2 foot glide, 1 foot glide, forward & backward swizzles, pumping in circle, back skating, stopping.

4:15 pm    
Sundays 9:45 or 10:15 am    

SP ALPHA - Ages 4 to 6 who have taken lessons
ALPHA - Ages 7 & older who have taken lessons
Forward stroking, forward crossovers in each direction, backward skating and snowplow stop.
Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays 4:15 pm    
Sundays 9:45 or 10:15 am    

BETA - Completed Alpha Level
Backward stroking, back crossovers in each direction, T-Stops both feet.
Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays 4:45 pm    
Sundays 9:45 or 10:15 am    

GAMMA/DELTA -Completed Beta Level
Gamma - Right & left outside 3 turns, right & left Mohawks, hockey stops.
Delta - Right & left inside 3 turns, forward outside and inside edges, bunny hop, lunge or shoot the duck.
Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays 4:45 pm    
Sundays 9:45 or 10:15 am  

FREE STYLE I - Any age completed Gamma/Delta Level
Waltz jump, half flip, pivot, 2 foot spin, backward outside & inside edges, spiral.
Sundays 9:45 am    

FREE STYLE II & III
Ballet jump, half lutz, half toe walley, 2 forward spirals, one foot spin, dance step sequence.
Sundays 9:45 am    

ADULTS - Beginners
Thursdays 1:00 pm    
Sundays 10:15 am    

ADULTS - Advanced
Sundays 10:15 am

REGISTRATION at Ice Rink ONLY!

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Proof of residency will be required for all residents. We cannot take registration for more than one session at a time and no priority is given to participants who are enrolled in prior session. Registration dates and times are as follows.
